A Major Milestone!


Well, it's official.  All the accounts have cleared and all our credit cards are paid in full!!!!  These last two were business expenses and I'm thrilled for them to be gone!  We have NEVER EVER in our entire 15 years of marriage, and probably before that, been completely credit card debt free!!!
All total, we paid off $51,396.00 from when I started tracking it in 2006!  The last two were a credit union card for $1531 and a business visa for $499.  Gone forEVER!!!

This isn't the official debt free scream, though.  I'm working on one more computer loan and two cars, but still this is HUGE for me!

Allowances and Money training

I've always thought it was a good idea to give our kids an allowance. But I'm not sure how to teach them the responsibility that goes along with it. All we've done is give it to them and not taught them how to manage it, save it, or think about it. Our 8 year old knows how much money she has, and thinks $20 is a lot of money. We have to work better on splitting their allowance money into categories. Most of the time their allowance is dolled out in $1.00 bills, so the actual splitting into different savings piles is difficult. I'm going to try to make it my goal this month to have the money split before I give it to them, so that we can work with them on saving long term, spending, and giving. We've not directly tied allowance money to chores because our 8 year old would just give up the money and refuse to do the chores. Innocence and Training

My three year old, Claire, just found a penny and wanted to put it in her ladybug bank. She said she's saving for a car. She also told me she had "a green one" in there too! I was very excited to use this as a learning experience, not just for her, but for me as well. I told her she had an account at the bank and if she put her "green one" dollar in the bank it would grow bigger and help her save for a car. I've told all our children if they save money for a car, Daddy and Mommy will pay for the other half. Dave Ramsey calls it 401K Dad. She asked where the bank was and I told her it was on the computer. Her account is at ING Direct. So she sat on my lap and we logged in. She looked for her name and found it on her savings account. Extra Pmts Good or Bad?

Our Weekend Round Up:  Well a big budget buster came when I accidently (I guess?) scheduled two payments for the same card.  That was a $344 oops.  Not good.  Well, good that that much debt is gone, bad because it is so close to Christmas and I had already budgeted that $344 for other items. Work was a bit  hurried because we had early dismissal at school this week which meant I picked up the kids 2 hrs early all week.  That's 10 hours of work I lost.  I made a up a bit on Friday afternoon, but still am looking forward to three regular days next week and then Thanksgiving!  The good news is the "big" check came in from our client and that make our bank account fat and happy for a while!
